Week 9 - ending the fight
Dear Durhamites and Friends of Durham,
It is with a heavy heart that I send this. Not because this is Feed the Fight Durham's last week despite wanting to get enough funding to make it through June. We passed the $100,000 mark and have paid more than 50 Durham restaurants to deliver more than 8,000 meals to our healthcare workers throughout Durham (see our final map). We are proud of the teamwork we've experienced with our Feeders, Fighters, and Funders. We are hopeful that our Durham restaurants can come out of this pandemic, and that the Durham healthcare workers won't face another wave this fall.
Our hearts are heavy because of George Floyd's murder at the hands of people who were supposed to be protecting him. And because there have been too many times this past week where peaceful protests turned violent. And because family, friends, fellow Durhamites, and fellow Americans don't feel safe simply because of the color of their skin.
I've attached the thoughts of Duke's Coach K and Frontline Foods' founder Frank Barbieri. And I'll close with Matthew 22:39:
"And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself" (22:37-39)
Thank you all for your support - we could not have done all this without you.
Julia, Ann, Judy, Lindsay, and Susan
